Chevrolet Avalanche 1500

While Chevrolet may no longer produce the Avalanche series, this "jack-of-all-trades" half-ton, full-size truck has retained a high resale value on the used car sales market. Never mind the fact that it's the car driven by team members in the television series "CSI NY" or that it was given away to Major League Baseball's Most Valuable Player in 2006. Ask Avalanche owners what they think and they'll tell you that it is a fun car to drive, comfortable and roomy with adjustable cargo space that is provided with a flexible mid-gate that converts the truck into a larger crew cab for six. The Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 was also a hit with critics, having been nominated for the North American SUV of the Year award and winning Motor Trend's "SUV of the Year" award for 2002.

There was only two generations of the Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 manufactured. The first generation of Avalanche 1500, produced between the years 2001 and 2006, featured a 5.3-L Vortec V8 engine with outputs of 285-horsepower. The single model Avalanche was available in standard two-wheel drive or optional four-wheel drive. The second generation trucks built between 2007 and 2013 was available in three trims and featured the same 5.3-L Vortec V8 engine, but outputs were boosted to 320-horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque. An option 6.0-L V8 engine was available for model years 2007 to 2009. In its final year of production, a single model dubbed the "Black Diamond Edition" was sold with a 6.0-L, 356-horsepower V8 engine.

The Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 was based on the long wheelbase of the company's existing full-size truck and SUV and featured 16-inch, alloy wheels, full length chrome strip splitting the lamp assembly and grille, cloth seats, and power doors and locks. An optional Z71 Off-Road package and a Z-66 On-Road package was available, with similar features. The gray plastic body cladding of first generation Avalanches was eliminated in the 2003 model year, and the company switched from a four-speed to a six-speed automatic in 2009. Second generation vehicles added interior refinements and improved maneuverability to allow for more precise driving; however, maneuverability and visibility remained challenging due to the truck's design. Side airbags became standard starting in 2008.

As with any vehicle, the Avalanche 1500 has had its share of problems. First and foremost is the cladding of the first generation trucks, which faded and caused "Zebra Striping" to appear after prolonged exposure to heat or sun. Chevrolet treated the cladding with a strong product to help restore the cladding's shine. Customers also complained of transmission failures in first generation trucks and excess oil consumption for model year 2007. Recalls by the company have focused on fixing problems associated with hydraulics, the fuel system, and the electrical system.

The Avalanche 1500 may not be produced by Chevy anymore, but Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 body parts and Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 auto parts are sold through PartGeeks.com Avalanche 1500 catalog to keep your truck running optimally.
